In October 2006 Town Meeting passed an article to establish a North Reading Youth Services Committee.  With the committee in place we were able to hire the very first North Reading Youth Services Director on October 9, 2007. 

 

Many new youth programs are underway in North Reading.  Young residents of North Reading have participated in over 700 hours of community service including the Friends of the Library Book Sale, the Veteran’s Day Ceremony and the Holiday Lighting Festival.  They have reached out to other communities by volunteering at the Lowell Wish Project and collecting food for the Haven from Hunger in Peabody. 

 

NRYS has also started a Youth Group for middle and high school aged participants to act as the planning committee for social and experiential activities as well as discussing the needs of youth in this town.

 

NRYS runs programs over school vacations, during the summer and hosts workshops twice per month during the school year as well as many weekend activities! 

 

We feel that the relationship and communication with all departments that work with youth is a vital part of serving our teens to the best of our ability.  We are working on many upcoming collaborations with other departments!

 

We are here as a resource to all children and families in town.  Please contact us to discuss any topic that you may be dealing with, we will do everything we can to connect you with the right professionals for the information or services you may need. We have worked with families on education, discipline, special education, criminal acts, violence, substance abuse, sexual health, the parent/child relationship, self-injury, dealing with friendships and relationships and much more . . .

 

 NRYS has big dreams for growth. It is our goal to expand our programs and further enhance the lives of North Reading youth.
