North Reading Youth Services

Community Service

NRYS is committed to providing meaningful community service opportunities for the young people of our community.  We have volunteered at the Veteran’s Day Ceremony, the Holiday Lighting Festival, the Library Book Sale, Lowell Wish Project, the Haven from Hunger, collected goods for Lawrence Fire Victims, food for our local Food Pantry, served food to those in need at Cor Unum Meal center and our newest “Pay Your Respect and Shovel a Vet” program!  Please let us know if you would like to get involved or have something you think we should be involved in! We can always help you find opportunities beyond what is listed.

“Pay Your Respect and Shovel a Vet”

North Reading Youth Services and Veterans Services are teaming up to provide a free shoveling service to our seasoned Veterans with disabilities. This service will be provided by both middle and high school-aged students with the idea that some parents may want to get involved as well. Create your ‘Dream Team’ with a group of friends or make it a family experience! The ‘Dream Team’ that shovels the most throughout the  season will win a free lunch at Ryers with a Vet of their choice!

Youth Service Day

Held annually the end of April or beginning of May! This is a day for North Reading youth to do something meaningful, have a good time and give back to their community.  Students finishing up grades 4 – 12 are welcome to participate and we can register an unlimited amount of students.  We will be cleaning up sites around town, including the schools, the library, the Edith O’Leary center, the parks and fields, the police and fire stations and others.  This may include weeding, mulching, raking, picking up trash and more. It’s Good to Be Green!  We will also need adults to help on this day.  Please let us know if you are interested.

Mentoring

North Reading Youth Services has started a mentoring program which allows High School students to work with elementary school students for one hour a week after school.  We meet on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:45pm. If you are interested, please contact Youth Services for more information!

Cor Unum Meal Center

We will volunteer by serving food to those in need and doing the set-up and clean-up of the facility. We will do this several times a year from 4:00 p.m.– 7:00 p.m. Transportation cannot be provided. The address is  191 Salem Street, Lawrence MA 01843
